How To Make a Felt Crib Mobile?

Table of Contents

Making a felt crib mobile is a great way to add a personal touch to your baby’s nursery.

You can choose from a variety of colors and patterns to create a one-of-a-kind mobile that will coordinate with the rest of the room. Plus, it’s a relatively simple project that doesn’t require a lot of time or money.

What do you need to make a felt mobile?

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own felt crib mobile:

-Felt in various colors and patterns

-Scissors

-Needle and thread

-Stuffing

-Ribbon or string

-A hoop (optional)

In addition, use a hot glue gun to attach the felt pieces to the hoop. However, this step is unnecessary, and you can simply sew them on.

Cut-out felt shapes

The first step is to cut out felt shapes in various colors and patterns. You can make these shapes as simple or complex as you like.

You can find templates online or at your local craft store if you need more confidence in your cutting skills. Once you have all of your felt pieces cut out, it’s time to start assembling the mobile.

Assemble the mobile

To assemble the mobile, you will need to sew the felt pieces onto ribbon or string. Begin by threading the needle and tying a knot at the end.

Then, start attaching the felt pieces to the string, spacing them out as evenly as possible.

If you are using a hoop, you can sew the felt pieces directly onto it. Using ribbon or string, tie the ends and hang them from the ceiling.

Finally, add stuffing to each felt piece to give it some dimension. Once all of the pieces are stuffed, your mobile is complete!

Hang and enjoy

Now it’s time to hang your mobile and enjoy! Choose a spot in the nursery where it will be both functional and visually appealing.

Then sit back and watch as your baby enjoys their new handmade mobile.

How do you make felt Cloud mobile?

To make felt cloud mobile, there are a few things you will need:

-felt in various colors

-embroidery floss or thread

-needle

-scissors

-tape measure or ruler

-polyester stuffing or batting

-small dowel rod or branch

-large paper clip or small key ring (optional)

Start by cutting out your felt clouds. You will need two large clouds, two medium clouds, and two small clouds. Once you have your template, trace it onto the felt and cut it out.

Next, take one large cloud and one small cloud and stitch them together using a running stitch along the curved edge. Then, do the same with the other large and small cloud.

Now take one of the medium clouds and stitch it to the bottom of one of the large/small cloud pairs. Do the same with the other medium cloud and the remaining large/small cloud pair.

To finish off the clouds, stuff each one with a small amount of polyester stuffing or batting. You want them to be firm but not too stiff. Once they are stuffed, stitch the opening closed using a blind stitch.

The next step is to make the raindrops. Cut out 12 felt circles in various sizes using this template. Take two of them and stitch them together along the curved edge using a running stitch. Repeat until all raindrops are paired up.

Now it’s time to attach the raindrops to the clouds. Start by threading a needle with a long piece of embroidery floss or thread.

Knot the end of the thread, and then insert the needle through the top of one cloud, coming out at the bottom.

Following, thread on a raindrop, and then insert the needle back into the cloud about 1/4″ away from where it first came out. Continue this pattern until all six raindrops are attached to the cloud.

The final step is to add a hanger to your mobile. If you use a dowel rod, cut it to the desired length using a saw. If you are using a branch, find one already the correct size.

To attach the clouds to the hanger, thread a needle with a long piece of embroidery floss or thread.

Knot the end of the thread, and then insert the needle through the top of one cloud, coming out at the bottom. Next, thread on a small key ring or large paper clip.

Finally, insert the needle back into the cloud about 1/4″ away from where it first came. Repeat with remaining clouds. Once you have all of your felt clouds cut out, you can start assembling the mobile.

What string do you use for a baby mobile?

The type of string for a baby mobile will depend on the weight of the felt pieces. You can use a fishing line or thread if the felt is lightweight. You can use twine, ribbon, and yarn if the felt is heavier.

How high should a baby’s mobile be?

The mobile should be hung high enough so that baby can see it clearly, but low enough so that baby can reach it if they grab it.

You will also want to ensure that the mobile is not within the baby’s line of sight when lying down in the crib, as this could be a distraction during nap time or nighttime sleep.
